The airport terminal and aircraft parking area with a taxiway are anticipated to significantly improve the travel experience for passengers.

Ethiopian Airlines Group, the largest airline group in Africa, opened the Gode Ugaas Miraad Airport Terminal on Monday for service.

The airport terminal and aircraft parking area with a taxiway are anticipated to significantly improve the travel experience for passengers flying to and from Gode, Somali Region of Ethiopia.

The new state-of-the-art airport terminal was officially opened in a grand inauguration ceremony attended by high-level dignitaries, including Ethiopia Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Mustafa Mohammed Omer, President of the Somali Regional State in Ethiopia.

The three-year project resulted in a cutting-edge airport terminal covering 3,500 square metres, featuring a new apron capable of handling four De Havilland Q400 or B737 aircraft simultaneously, and additional facilities including an airport rescue and firefighting station, a water reservoir, and parking areas.

In a statement, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew expressed enthusiasm about the project's completion.

"We are truly pleased with the launch of the Gode Ugaas Miraad Airport Terminal building and aircraft parking with the taxiway construction project, as it will upgrade the airport experience of our passengers travelling to and from the city of Gode."

Tasew highlighted the airline's commitment to elevating domestic airport facilities, mentioning ongoing projects at Jinka, Kombolcha, Goba/Robe, and Bahir Dar airports.

"It is with great honour and pleasure that we work on these projects and play our part in our country’s tourism and socio-economic growth," he said.

Travelers will benefit from the new terminal's state-of-the-art amenities, which include the latest technology and a solar system to enhance sustainability and convenience.

Ethiopian Airlines, a key player in regional connectivity with over 22 destinations in the country, operates daily flights to and from Gode.

Gode, as the third airport in the Somali Regional State, joins Jigjiga and Kebridahar, allowing passengers to travel directly between Jigjiga and Gode without transiting via Addis Ababa.
